Food Grade: What Does It Mean

At Jacob, we pride ourselves on being able to offer a product that bridges an extraordinary number of applications and industries. Whilst the principal of product selection is simplified with our technical sales catalog, there are always variants to each requirement. In this article, we hope to offer some insight with answers to some familiar questions:

Q: What are some factors to consider for a pneumatic conveying system?

  • Transfer rate of material >

JACOB Tubing systems can operate under positive and negative pressures, JACOB certified tubing, if configured correctly, are shock explosion proof to 3 bar or 10 bar overpressure. This is an important safety factor, particularly when converting solids and gases that have explosive properties

  • Distance to convey >

Available in standard lengths from 6 metres to 50mm, the lipped end and pull ring connection allows easy and fast installation over any distance. We can also supply the system with flanged connections if required. • Tube Diameter > Available in diameters from 60mm to 1600mm, there is a size to suit your individual application

Q: What are some key prerequisites for a dust and fume extraction system?

  • Oil Mist Extraction? >

Oil Mist is produced when oil or coolant is sprayed onto parts in a manufacturing process. JACOB Quick Connect pull rings and u-seals are ideally suited, and provide tight connection, to eliminate any potential risks to health

  • Dust Extraction? >

JACOB Tubing systems now include a full range of cyclones. In addition, potentially explosive dusts can be handled with Jacob ATEX certified pneumatic valves to ensure safety

  • Fume Extraction? >

Fume control is essential to avoid a hazardous working environment. JACOB u-seals can be selected to suit the properties of different application requirements, alongside the material finish of the tube components

Q: What should I consider before installing a bulk handling system?

  • Material Type >

Abrasive or corrosive materials can affect the longevity of a tube component. To prevent damage due to corrosion in mild steels, our components are protected – choose from JACOB stainless steel, powder coated, spray primed or galvanised components. Available in 1-3mm wall thickness as standard.

  • Food Grade Application >

Our FOOD GRADE line of products complies with both the European EC1935/2004 regulations and the American FDA guidelines. All components that come into contact with food made exclusively from high grade stainless steels. In addition, we use adhesive-free vulcanised u-seals and ring seals
